Givenchy's Gentleman is now available as an Eau de Parfum. The 1970s were rich in powerful, chypre, leathery compositions.
The magnificent Gentleman by Givenchy was first born in 1974 under the aegis of Hubert de Givenchy, who intended it for an audience of elegant men who loved distinguished and natural scents. Ever devoted to a dandy elegance, the house took the gamble of reviving Gentleman in 2017 to modernize it under the talents of Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp. Building on its success, Gentleman returned a year later, in 2018, in the even more powerful form of Gentleman Eau de Parfum.
The striking contrasts of Gentleman Eau de Parfum composed by Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp
Hubert de Givenchy has always cultivated an elegant and distinguished spirit, both for his haute couture houses and for his fragrances, feminine as well as masculine. With Gentleman in 1974, composed by one of the master perfumers of the time, Paul Léger, he offered men a variation on patchouli, still rare for the period. Better still, he had patchouli clash with intense aromatic freshness, the better to nestle into a beautiful and original rose note at the heart.
Although Gentleman has remained among men's favorite fragrances, the house of Givenchy chose to let it evolve with its time. It would be Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp, two perfumers whose reputation needs no introduction, who created, from the chypre contrasts of the 1974 Gentleman, a modern and still equally refined 2017 Gentleman.
The new composition of Gentleman offered by Givenchy as an Eau de Toilette met with great success, so it comes as no surprise to see our favorite Gentleman dress in darker colors to present itself as an Eau de Parfum in 2018.
Gentleman Eau de Parfum, like all the bottles in the Gentleman range, plays on its contrasts to seduce, but this time it goes even further into intense warmth and icy freshness, becoming more piquant and more virile than ever.
Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Parfum between sensuality, freshness, and floral notes
If the 2017 Gentleman Eau de Toilette offered an array of contrasting notes, each as beautiful as the next, from the gourmand character of pear to the powdery delights of iris, aromatic freshness, and woody sensuality, Gentleman Eau de Parfum will not be left behind, make no mistake!
Indeed, Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp worked on the composition of Gentleman Eau de Parfum in such a way as to heighten the intensity of Gentleman's olfactory structure. Thus Gentleman Eau de Parfum does not hesitate to offer, right from the top notes, the piquant power of black pepper notes.
In the heart, however, our Gentleman Eau de Parfum retains the sophisticated beauty of iris, just as it remains equally sensual in depth thanks to the now-cult patchouli note present since the very first bottle in 1974. Yet vanilla, blended with patchouli, comes as a surprise with its opulent boldness, while bringing to this virile fragrance an entirely novel sensuality.
Gentleman Givenchy is not a fragrance for just any man: it suits one who embraces his sensitive and tender side, that femininity so often irresistible to women.
