Where to buy

In other words, each one comes in a feminine and a masculine version and draws us into a world of its own. This trend was initiated by the creation of the Black XS pour lui and pour elle juices. For once, let us start with its masculine version, which was created in 2005.

Paco Rabanne's rock 'n' roll universe

Paco Rabanne is capable of drawing us into a world that is at once highly elegant and yet full of audacity and fully unrestrained. Also, it was only logical that he turned to the rock 'n' roll universe when he created the Black XS duo. It delivers the image of a man transcended by musical vibrations. Picture it: A concert hall plunged into darkness. Tension is at its peak. The audience holds its breath. Within these walls where stage giants have played the finest notes of electroshock music, young songwriters are about to bounce their own story forward with writing that multiplies the energy of the hits of yesteryear. Black XS pour Lui is akin to the writing of the career of a new rock legend. It displays an intense virility charged with emotion. It thus suits sensual, chic and rebellious men. Its scent is in their image: passionate, vibrant and akin to intoxication. Also, if the sales achieved by this fragrance are to be believed, it must be noted that Black XS pour Lui has made a brilliant entrance onto the stage!

The rebellious virility of Black XS pour Lui

When Olivier Cresp wrote the formula for Black XS pour Lui, he confided that he thought of it as the composition of a rock score. He wanted his juice to be generous, fiery and addictive. Thus, like the opening notes of a concert, Black XS pour Lui instantly electrifies with the freshness of Calabrian lemon combined with kalamansi, a small citrus fruit whose scent lies somewhere between bitter orange and Philippine lime. Then, the whole gradually evolves toward more aromatic notes. Black XS pour Lui blends sage and tagetes. Its heart then ignites with spices, gaining in impertinence. Cardamom and cinnamon dominate the whole while being wrapped in Tolu balsam as well as a particularly gourmand praline note. From then on, Black XS pour Lui becomes utterly addictive. It ends with a more woody and sensual sillage woven with rosewood, ebony, patchouli and black amber. In terms of aesthetics, it is in the image of a rocker. It comes in a bottle resembling a lighter, entirely lacquered in black. Fine grooves underline its graphic, masculine look. It is as if Black XS pour Lui had donned its finest leather garment for us.

Olfastory’s review

Paco Rabanne is a master of excess. Known in fashion circles as well as in perfumery for his impertinence, he likes to defy conventional codes. Fond of making people talk about him, he brings joy to women and men around the world, stirring up trends and always going where he is not expected. A provocateur at heart, he also delivers a genuine story in each of his creations. It is said of him that adrenaline is his oxygen and his reason for living. And it is precisely in this way that he envisioned the fragrance Black XS pour Lui. Who is hidden behind this fragrance? What portrait does it symbolize? Here is our take on this men's fragrance.

A rock through-line, from 2011 to Be a Legend

The digital platform be-a-rockstar.com in 2011, Iggy Pop in 2012, Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop for Be a Legend at the end of 2014: a continuous musical thread.

In 2011, promotion went through a digital platform, be-a-rockstar.com, set up in partnership with Universal Music Group: films titled Black XS Off Shows, produced by Off TV, followed nine bands there, including Kaiser Chiefs, Two Door Cinema Club and Cold War Kids. Previously, the original box featured a bare-chested photograph of English model and amateur boxer Will Chalker.

The musical register is found in the visuals, where models have posed with guitar in hand since 2005. Iggy Pop was chosen as the face of Black XS L'Excès, a campaign and film announced in France starting in February 2012. A British press outlet later reported a Be a Legend campaign, at the end of 2014, with Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop in tuxedos, shot in black and white.

A production company profile also lists a global Black XS campaign shot in Los Angeles with Sky Ferreira and Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis, for the agency Rosbeef! and directed by Irina Dakeva, with no date allowing it to be linked to a specific year.
