Dune pour Homme

Six years after the feminine Dune, Dior gives this green woody a fig leaf for the top and hedione for the heart.

A masculine counterpart, in 1997

Dune was released in 1991; the masculine version arrives six years later, on the same story of the seaside and a return to the elements. The house presents it as a fragrance of escape, fresh, woody and oceanic.

The field credits Olivier Cresp. Persolaise credits the composition to Olivier Cresp and Jean-Pierre Bethouart, in the very title of his review from May 2022; the second name is carried only by him and remains outside the field.

What the house declares

Dior reduces the fragrance to three raw materials: a fig leaf accord for the top, hedione for the heart, Virginia cedar for the base. The house places this cedar among its masculine bases, alongside Jules and Eau Sauvage Extrême.

François Demachy, the house's perfumer-creator at the time, describes an oceanic green woody and a fragrance of escape, holding together the offshore current, the softness of sand and the force of the elements.

Four years of work led Francis Kurkdjian to remake thirteen of the house's juices, Dune pour Homme among them. None is added to the catalog: each replaces on shelf the version it found there.

Kurkdjian arranges the series into two periods. Dior à Grasse honors the masters of the postwar era; Dior à Paris covers 1979 to 2003, and Dune pour Homme takes its place there alongside Jules, Dolce Vita and the two Higher.
