Un Jardin sur la Lagune

Hermès launched Un Jardin sur la Lagune in 2019, the sixth creation in the Parfums-Jardins collection and the first by Christine Nagel, the house’s perfumer since 2016, who took over from Jean-Claude Ellena on this series begun in 2003.

A secret garden in Venice

The fragrance was born of a garden hidden behind a wall, in a city of a thousand contrasts: the Giardino Eden, the park of a villa acquired in the late nineteenth century by a British lord and landscape gardener, where Proust, Henry James, and Rilke passed through. Listed in 1945 and left abandoned, it remains the largest private garden in Venice.

Christine Nagel says she discovered it one January morning and returned in every season: the pittosporum in bloom, the magnolia, the Madonna lily, the samphire, the woody smell of roots that stay at ground level, unable to burrow into the salty earth.

What the house says

Hermès describes a secret garden where nature has withstood time, a dreamed garden, caressing and vibrant, where woody scents mingle with floral notes as the wind carries salty notes into the distance. The perfumer says she wove the fragrance from the memories of this place, from the trees and flowers that have grown there through the seasons.

The eau de toilette is sold in 30, 50, and 100 ml, with a 200 ml refill. Robin, of Now Smell This, also notes 15 ml bottles sold in sets of four.
