Un Jardin Après la Mousson

Un Jardin après la Mousson: The miracle of damp earth according to Jean-Claude Ellena. After taking us on a journey through Mediterranean lands and then along the banks of the Nile, Jean-Claude Ellena and Hermès decided in 2008 to take us on a journey to India with Un Jardin après la Mousson.

Yet this India depicted by the painter Ellena is quite different from the usual scents; it stands out through its resurgent vegetation and its spices, present but muted, as if to better draw us in. Un Jardin après la Mousson is a journey into unknown lands, into an India that few Westerners ultimately know.

Un Jardin après la Mousson or Indian Fantasies according to Hermès

The now well-established Parfums-Jardins collection from Hermès has, since 2003, taken us to visit familiar lands (the Mediterranean, Egypt, and now India) through new fragrant moments and sensations. Having previously made us breathe the scents of the Nile, this time Jean-Claude Ellena stays within damp tonalities to have us experience the end of the Indian monsoon with Un Jardin après la Mousson.

The Indian monsoon is not perceived by Asian countries as bad luck; quite the opposite. It is the season of all possibilities, of all vegetal renewal. And when the end of the rainy season finally arrives, nature awakens as if in a second birth, offering its onlookers the fruits of these torrential waters. Waters that awaken the earth and its vegetation and that perfume the spices with sweetness.

Traveling precisely through the Kerala region during this magical moment, Jean-Claude Ellena wanted to convey to us the emotions of this Indian “after the downpour” with Un Jardin après la Mousson.

The deluge has ceased. The black clouds have given way to a calm, serene blue. The canals have become mirrors. The suffocating air has turned into fragrance. I put my nose outside. The great garden breathes. The trees straighten up. The leaves turn green again. The grass sways. Young shoots appear. The scent is reborn, vivid, clear, wet. It is this welcoming garden that I put into a bottle. Jean-Claude Ellena for Un Jardin après la Mousson.
Who better placed than the watercolorist Karen Petrossian, already a collaborator of Hermès in the creation of its famous scarves, to create a lush and colorful imagined world for this Jardin après la Mousson? Naturally, then, the packaging, as well as the visual and the advertising for Un Jardin après la Mousson, would be entirely inspired by her colorful drawings.

A Parfum-Jardin that takes us on a journey through a citrus, green and spicy India

The bottle for Un Jardin après la Mousson takes on the square opulence of the Parfums-Jardins collection. This time the glass is dressed in gradient bluish and green hues, as if to better highlight the colors of the Indian sky after terrible storms.

Un Jardin après la Mousson opens like a fresh, tangy cocktail of lime and orange dusted with a vivid green note. Coriander and black pepper come to intensify the blend, perfuming it with their vital force. At the heart, an accord of white flowers turns creamy, while cardamom and ginger bring freshness and aromatic power. Finally, the woody, tonic depths of vetiver turn slightly smoky, as if to let us be further immersed in these wild, vegetal scents.

Described as a serene expression of nature reborn after the monsoon rains by its creator Jean-Claude Ellena, Un Jardin après la Mousson lets us discover the pleasures of a lush nature that is rarely known.
