Un Jardin sur la Lagune

Hermès names three main materials, a luminous magnolia, an enveloping pittosporum, and a carnal Madonna lily, in a floral and woody eau de toilette where the wind carries salty notes. Robin, of Now Smell This, completes this list with white musks, woods, and aquatic notes.

What the critics perceive

Robin smells a promising opening, citrus peel, white flowers with none standing out, a little spice and green, a little bark and earth; the fragrance fades into petals in water before a woody amber base that reminds her of the men’s colognes of shopping malls.

Thomas Dunckley, of The Candy Perfume Boy, sees in it a hazy breeze carrying the scent of flowers among droplets of sea water and greenery, far from a vivacious floral. Dariush Alavi, of Persolaise, notes in the base a vetiver more present than expected, next to a musky honey and florals.

What stays out

The samphire and the smell of the roots, which Christine Nagel cites among her memories of the garden, like the white musks of Now Smell This, remain described in prose; the Madonna lily joins lily in the list of notes.

What the label declares

The ingredient list on the house’s page holds eighteen entries: alcohol, water, and fragrance, three sunscreen filters, an antioxidant, and the allergens to be declared, including limonene, linalool, coumarin, and cinnamyl alcohol.
