Polo

Ralph Lauren launched Polo in 1978, the same year as Lauren, its first fragrance for women. The house entrusted the composition to Carlos Benaïm and placed its first men’s scent in the world of polo, the equestrian sport whose tradition runs through the brand’s image.

The polo field

The house says it was inspired by the raw strength of the polo player and by the sight and sound of horses galloping across the green of a freshly mown field. It ties the fragrance to the heritage of this sporting tradition and to the confidence of its players.

An award-winning classic

Polo received a FiFi Award in 1979, the Fragrance Foundation’s distinction. Still sold today, it remains one of the great American successes of men’s perfumery, and its fans nickname it Polo Green, after the color of its bottle.

A lineage

The name has since given rise to a whole family of men’s fragrances, among them Polo Sport, Polo Blue and Polo Black, all tied to the world of polo and to the brand’s wardrobe.
