Polo opens on pine, thyme and basil, makes leather, tobacco leaf and tarragon its heart and rests on patchouli, oakmoss and incense. The house sums up its signature through its accords of pine, leather and tobacco absolute.

Pine, thyme and basil

The top pairs a pine accord with thyme and basil essential oils. In 2007, Kevin, of Now Smell This, smelled in it a blend of freshly pruned vegetation, crushed juniper berries and waxy pine needles still laden with sap.

Leather, tobacco and tarragon

The heart brings together a leather accord, a tobacco leaf absolute and a tarragon accord. Along with pine, the house makes them the boldest and most masculine trait of the fragrance, between the aromatic freshness of the top and the depth of the base.

Patchouli, oakmoss and incense

The base blends patchouli oil, an oakmoss accord and incense oil. They give the fragrance the woody, mossy depth that places it among the woody chypres.

What stays out

The lavender, eucalyptus and rose once attributed to Polo do not appear among the notes the house publishes today. The list published in 2007 also cited artemisia, juniper, cumin, bergamot and carnation.

What the label declares

The ingredient list has twenty-two entries. After alcohol, water and fragrance come regulated allergens, including coumarin, eugenol, isoeugenol, hydroxycitronellal and citral, as well as tert-butyl alcohol and denatonium benzoate, two alcohol denaturants.

The juice is tinted by two colorants, CI 42090 for blue and CI 15985 for yellow.
