REPLICA On a Date

REPLICA On a Date joined Maison Margiela’s Replica collection at the end of 2022, a line of perfumes that each recreate a specific memory. The house pins this one down precisely: a date in Provence, on a late summer evening in the year 2014.

The composition is signed by Carlos Benaïm, who says he drew on his own memories of Provence, where he took his first steps in perfumery. He worked with the master sommelier Manuel Peyrondet to translate the aromas of the region’s red and rosé wines.

Carlos Benaïm says he first sought to express the finesse and freshness of red wine through crème de cassis and davana, before translating the energy and roundness of rosé into a new accord. He also wanted rose, which he considers the flower of love par excellence.

Manuel Peyrondet says perfumes are above all meant to make you feel good, and sees in On a Date a strong personality, born of the Provençal terroir and its aromatic contrasts. The perfume, announced in December 2022, gained wider distribution in February 2023.

What the house says

The house tells of a date overlooking the vineyards of Provence, in the golden light of a late summer evening, amid the scents of ripe grapes and fresh roses. It promises a perfume that awakens memories of dates and of falling in love.

It says its ingredients are responsibly and ethically sourced: the patchouli essence comes from Bali, the rose petal essence from Isparta.
