Noir Exquis was released in 2015, composed by Bertrand Duchaufour for L'Artisan Parfumeur. The fragrance recounts an unplanned rendezvous in a Parisian pastry shop: candied chestnut and candied orange at the opening, coffee and maple syrup at the heart, a dark vanilla set against ebony and sandalwood to finish.

Where to buy

L'Artisan Parfumeur launched Noir Exquis in September 2015, at eighty-eight euros for fifty milliliters and one hundred twelve euros for one hundred. The house broke with the travel theme that had carried Bertrand Duchaufour's creations for it since 2002.

The perfumer starts from a romantic rendezvous in a Parisian pastry shop, over coffee and a tray of sweets. Two people meet, glances cross, and the house makes this moment the starting point of the fragrance.

Duchaufour had already signed Timbuktu, Traversée du Bosphore, Séville à l'aube, Vanille Absolument and Nuit de Tubéreuse for the house. His work for L'Artisan Parfumeur dates back to 2002 and counts among the most extensive for the brand.

The house now only offers the one-and-a-half-milliliter sample on its site. The fragrance remains available elsewhere, at two hundred five euros for one hundred milliliters.

Olfastory’s review

Kafkaesque describes it as smokier, woodier and less sweet than the pastry-shop promise suggested, with an opening close to Tobacco Vanille. ÇaFleureBon welcomes the release with interest.
