Mandarina Corsica

Mandarina Corsica is the Corsican stop of Les Paysages, signed by Quentin Bisch in 2018. The subject is not the maquis but a confection: the candied mandarin. The house names three materials for it, mandarin, immortelle and tonka bean, and the perfumer uses an integral mandarin, extracted from zest and flesh at once.

September 2018. L’Artisan Parfumeur adds two regions to its Les Paysages collection: Corsica with Mandarina Corsica, and the Auvergne with Mont de Narcisse, signed by Anne Flipo. Both come out at the same time, at €125 for 100 ml.

A confection rather than a landscape

The title announces an island, the juice tells of a sweet. The house speaks of an aromatic jewel tasted somewhere between land and sea, and makes the candied mandarin its subject.

Corsica enters through the immortelle of the maquis, a dry, salty material the house keeps in the background, and through the sea wind that reviewers hear in it.

The integral mandarin

The singularity lies in a quality of raw material: the integral mandarin, obtained by extracting zest and flesh at the same time, developed by Givaudan to widen the citrus palette.

Citrus essential oil usually comes from the peel alone, which is why citrus scents rarely smell of the fruit one eats. Here the flesh enters the formula, and the fruit becomes edible to the nose.

The house presents Quentin Bisch as an artist as much as a perfumer, attached to strong ideas and to effects of surprise. He signs this Corsican stop for the house.
