L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci returns in a limited edition designed by Antoinette Poisson. It was in 1948 that the house Nina Ricci gave birth to one of its greatest perfumes. It was a floral and spicy juice, at odds with the trends of its time. It also celebrated the joy of peace regained after the war.
In 1948, Nina Ricci offered women a testament to its era, crafting a historic perfume evocative of timelessness. Named L'Air du Temps, this juice was the very essence of love. It conveyed the feeling of finally being able to live again after the war. Nearly 80 years after its creation, women's fondness for it endures, and Nina Ricci is therefore designing a collector's edition of its cult fragrance, in collaboration with the Parisian workshops Antoinette Poisson.
The evolution of the Nina Ricci bottle through the ages
At the time of its release, L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci did not exactly have the silhouette we attribute to it today. Indeed, this feminine perfume was first presented in a bottle resembling an ovalized sun. It had a radiant and fluid shape, whose purpose was to express the freedom regained. A dove, a timeless symbol of peace, was then engraved on its cap. Then, in 1951, Marc Lalique transformed this bottle. He designed a new shape for it, like two chiseled doves flying above a crystal swirl. It was thus a perfect allegory of love and tenderness. However, this bottle was technically difficult to produce. It required about fifteen finishing operations performed by hand. The whole was then presented in a yellow box, evoking the light contained in this perfume. Today, the original colors of this box have disappeared, but its shape remains identical.
A collaboration with Antoinette Poisson
To design the new limited edition bottle of L'Air du Temps, Nina Ricci decided to call on a true Parisian institution: the house Antoinette Poisson. A specialist in dominoterie, it crafts wallpaper panels by hand. The creations of the Antoinette Poisson workshops are always very inspired by the decorative arts of the 18th century. They have the gift of using ancestral craftsmanship and immersing us in the art of living of the Age of Enlightenment.
The new aesthetic of L'Air du Temps
L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci and Antoinette Poisson is presented to us in only one size of 50 ml. Its bottle still consists of a swirl topped with two doves. For the occasion, the whole is entirely tinted a glossy and opaque white, resembling porcelain. This material gives this bottle a luxurious appearance, echoing the luminosity of the juice contained within its walls. Moreover, let us not forget that white is a symbol of peace. Now, this message has been carried by L'Air du Temps since its very first launch. Thanks to the craftsmanship of Antoinette Poisson, the bottle of L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci is entirely decorated with a toile de Jouy pattern in shades of blue, gathering bird silhouettes and a floral motif. This is also found on the cardboard packaging of this perfume. Finally, a gold band completes the neck of this bottle, while proudly bearing the initials of Nina Ricci.
