Where to buy
Such is the description of this phenomenon in the dictionary. Nevertheless, Nina Ricci decided to view it through a far more poetic lens and to place it in the lineage of one of its most celebrated perfumes. At the end of 2016, the house decided to transform the iconic L'Air Du Temps, created in 1948, into a version named Le Crépuscule. It is described as a kind of olfactory sunset, at once narcotic, rich and sumptuous.
A new Nina Ricci in collaboration with Calice Becker
To create this new fragrance, the house Nina Ricci called on perfumer Calice Baker. She is one of the most renowned noses on the planet, having already collaborated with numerous niche brands as well as with giants of the luxury world. Each of her creations carries a highly poetic impulse, guided by her uncommon artistic instinct. Here, she chose to tame a night-blooming flower, a plant known for releasing its sensual scent only once night has fallen. It is joined by carnation, a plant used in very small amounts because it is highly opulent and renowned for its many facets, at once floral, spicy or rosy. Ylang-ylang then completes the whole with its suave flavor, more fruity and almost leathery. This ingredient, sourced from a shrub native to Madagascar, enriches the floral accord of L'Air Du Temps Le Crépuscule here, its scent revealing a breath close to that of jasmine. Finally, the whole concludes with warm, exotic vanilla accents, leaving behind a soft, balsamic cloud.
The new bottle design of L'Air Du Temps Le Crépuscule
Initially, L'Air Du Temps was presented in a case shaped like an ovalized sun. It displayed a radiant, fluid silhouette expressing the freedom regained after the war. The cap of this perfume was then engraved with a dove. It was in 1951 that this bird took on another dimension on this bottle. Indeed, it was completely redesigned by Marc Lalique. This genius of glassmaking from the last century designed a bottle adorned with two chiseled doves flying above a swirl of crystal. Very quickly, this new case became legendary. It is a kind of allegory of love and tenderness, symbolizing universal happiness. Also, with the creation of L'Air Du Temps Le Crépuscule, it is delivered to us in a slightly modified format. While its shape remains the same, its color has evolved considerably. Once transparent, it is now adorned with an intense, dark blue. Thus, L'Air Du Temps Le Crépuscule echoes a sky gradually overtaken by night. The doves' wings, for their part, have been entirely covered in feathers. This eccentricity is the work of Maison Lemar. The whole is absolutely captivating, at once highly harmonious while being charged with mystery.
