Sauvage Extrait is Dior’s first extrait de parfum for men, launched in 2026 and composed by Francis Kurkdjian. The densest version of the Sauvage line, it sets at its heart a Vietnamese oud essence with leather facets, in a chiaroscuro of Indonesian patchouli, Madagascan vetiver and Virginia cedarwood, lit at the top by bergamot and lavender from Provence.
Adam Hurly finds the Sauvage signature softened by creamier woods and an oud that favors elegance over flash; Varanis Ridari stays neutral, drawn to its risk-taking but unconvinced by its dry oud and its price.

A creamier Sauvage
Adam Hurly, for Robb Report, immediately recognizes the Sauvage imprint, but notes that its usual brightness gives way to a creamier blend of woods. He finds the oud well judged, serving a discreet elegance rather than effect.
He finds it softer and more enveloping to wear than its list of materials would suggest, and sees in it the darkest and richest territory of a line that Dior expands without ever competing with the original.
A neutral review
Varanis Ridari, on his blog The Scented Devil, gives it a neutral verdict. He describes a minimalist, smoky and woody opening, run through with a bitter wood, and feels that Kurkdjian does little to tie it to the 2015 Sauvage.
He faults this dry oud, heavy with cypriol to his nose, for resembling those of entry-level Middle Eastern brands, and judges the price excessive. He praises, however, its creative risk-taking and says he does not hate the smell.
