What the house declares

Chanel describes a fruity-floral whirlwind. A sparkling raspberry accord, with facets of crisp fruit, rose and violet, rises first; it gives way to a luminous heart of rose geranium, with a naturally rosy scent and a slightly minty note.

This geranium is grown, among other places, in Chanel’s fields in Grasse, where it is harvested close to the ground; its leaves, cut and distilled, carry its scent. A touch of powdery iris and an accord of cedar and white musks complete the composition.

Three tiers

The house does not break its fragrance down, but its description moves in order: raspberry, rose and violet in the top; rose geranium and iris in the heart; cedar and white musks in the base. Rachel K. Ng also perceives a peach, which the house does not name.

What the label declares

The list Chanel publishes places, after alcohol, fragrance and water, tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, an ambery synthetic wood, limonene, bergamot and bitter orange peel oils, linalyl acetate, linalool, citronellol and lemon peel oil.

It also shows geranium flower oil (Pelargonium graveolens), Virginia cedar oil (Juniperus virginiana), rose ketones, jasmine and rose oil or extract, patchouli oil (Pogostemon cablin), hexadecanolactone, a musk, and carvone.

One UV filter, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, protects the juice, and four colorants, a violet, two reds and a blue, give it its tint. Chanel notes that the list appears on every package and advises checking it in case of allergy.
