When the various perfumers and descendants of the Guerlain family create a fragrance, they often use art as the primary source of inspiration for their composition. This was the case with Mitsouko, created in 1919 by Jacques Guerlain based on the heroic warrior of Claude Farrère's novel. It was also the case with Liu, composed as a tribute to the beautiful heroine of Puccini's opera Turandot. The same holds true for Nuit d'Amour, composed this time by Jean-Paul Guerlain as a tribute to a painting by Klimt, Woman with a Black Hat and Feather Boa.

Nuit d'Amour is therefore meant to be the olfactory representation of this elegantly corseted woman of the early twentieth century. A delicate and composed woman who nonetheless does not seek to be overlooked—quite the opposite, she wishes to be seen, perhaps even admired, for her mysterious gaze that a hazy fiery mane of hair illuminates, as Jacques Guerlain puts it.

Nuit d'Amour is therefore more sentimental and feminine than ever, playing on the contrasts between its powdery floral notes and its tonic, oriental power.

Nuit d'Amour, like all the fragrances created by Jacques Guerlain, is thus marked by a strong emotion, a raw emotion that cannot choose between the delicacy of feminine beauty and the unease caused by the charms of this self-assured woman.

The perfumer therefore made Nuit d'Amour a bold, contrasting composition, one that also asserts itself in the contrasts of its original bottle, which plays with a chaste pearl necklace and a retro cameo, while featuring a cap that is quite suggestive of the feminine forms it seeks to evoke… This takes nothing away from the chic of this Nuit d'Amour bottle, created by Baccarat in 80 pieces for its first 2006 edition.

Nuit d'Amour opens with a surprising blend of the freshness and tonic quality of pink pepper and the fruity, exotic sweetness of a lychee note. Then, at the heart of Nuit d'Amour, may rose offers its floral splendor. A sweetness that appears powdered with a lovely, delicate violet, charmingly retro in reference to the painting that inspired the perfumer. Finally, sandalwood and white musks form a warm, cottony sillage, guided along by a few elegant iris notes.
