The venerable house Guerlain seems to have taken a new direction with l'Instant released in 2003. Guerlain sought to modernize its image, to convey its finest qualities of quality and craftsmanship while preserving the legendary modernity that made the house's success. This modernization was particularly noticeable through the sensual spirit conveyed by fragrances such as Idylle. But the sensuality did not stop there, quite the contrary!

Sylvaine Delacourte dared to introduce the Elixirs Charnels in 2008, breaking once and for all Guerlain's “retro” image to shift it decisively into absolute, very sensual, even simply sexual gourmand character! A revolution for the house…

With French Kiss, released six years after the first trio of Elixirs Charnels (Gourmand Coquin, Chypre Captivant, and Oriental Brûlant), Guerlain continues its sexy approach while calming the mood and the imagery with a fragrance that is gourmand, certainly, but very elegant. Of course French Kiss continues to exhale feminine desire, that much is certain, but Thierry Wasser's olfactory approach seems more oriented toward cosmetic scents than aphrodisiac ones. Moreover, the communication for French Kiss would be much less flashy than for the first three installments of 2008…

Between violet, rose and fruits, French Kiss by Guerlain turns into gourmand sweetness

As noted, six years passed between the three bottles of the Les Elixirs Charnels collection composed by Christine Nagel and Sylvaine Delacourte and this delicate French Kiss. Six years and a new in-house perfumer went by, so Thierry Wasser would play, for French Kiss, much more on floral notes than on gourmand ones.

French Kiss opens on soft, fruity notes of raspberry that pair with a fresh lychee with a gently exotic flavor. Then, at the heart, rose is powdered with violet, paying vibrant homage to the inimitable softness and scent of Guerlain lipsticks. Finally, French Kiss closes on a budding sensuality symbolized by an opulent heliotrope. Meanwhile, white musks and vanilla form a gourmand, enveloping cloud. Iris flower scatters this unforgettable, heavenly kiss with a few powdery stars…
