What the house declares

Valentino classifies Born in Roma Extradose Donna among floral ambery fragrances. In the top, a blackcurrant accord and essences of bergamot and mandarin give a fresh, lively opening that the house wants to be playful.

In the heart, a finely aged rum accord, highly concentrated and liqueur-like according to the house, joins sambac jasmine absolute. The base rests on a Madagascan Bourbon vanilla extract, sweet and slightly woody, dosed to excess.

Three tiers

The house itself breaks its fragrance down: blackcurrant accord, bergamot and mandarin in the top; rum accord and sambac jasmine in the heart; Bourbon vanilla in the base. Amber does not appear among the declared notes: it describes the family, not a material.

Amandine Clerc-Marie also mentions licorice notes, which the house does not name. Kimberly Wilson, of Essence, notes that jasmine, prominent in the original eau de parfum, here gives way to blackcurrant and rum.

What the label declares

The list Valentino publishes declares, after alcohol, fragrance and water, benzyl salicylate, benzyl alcohol, hydroxycitronellal, linalool, coumarin, limonene and isoeugenol, along with alpha-isomethyl ionone.

It also shows an antioxidant, benzyl benzoate, methyl anthranilate, with its orange blossom and grape accents, anise alcohol, citronellol, farnesol, benzyl cinnamate, citral and geraniol, along with two colorants, a violet and a red.
