Ultra Male by Jean Paul Gaultier: a fragrance built entirely on virility. If Jean-Paul Gaultier is an artist defined in many ways, he remains inseparable from his emblematic sailor top. He elevated this garment to superstar status and declines it in every possible form, whether in couture or in perfume.

So, how can one evoke it without mentioning the emblematic fragrance Le Male, born in 1995 to become a true icon. Riding on this success, it has been reinterpreted many times, and it is precisely Ultra Male that concerns us here.

The story of a cult fragrance by Jean-Paul Gaultier

Ultra Male fits perfectly into the trend set by its predecessor. As usual, it carries all the essential characteristics of the Jean-Paul Gaultier house. Thus, it reclaims the sensuality of its elder. At the same time, it adds even more virility. Jean-Paul Gaultier's emblematic sailor has this time traded his bundle for a leather jacket. Fully tattooed, he appears more rebellious than ever. As its name suggests, Ultra Male is the fragrance of a man with a very assertive masculinity, endowed with disarming confidence, easily imagined with a swaggering gait. All muscle, it is the fragrance of a man who knows how to command attention through his stature, energy and personality. So, one can easily guess that it carries a very sulfurous, contrasted and intense scent.

The extreme masculinity of Ultra Male

Ultra Male is a juice that reclaims the codes of its predecessor. Of course, it still places lavender at the heart of its composition. However, it proves more powerful than before. It is almost as if it had been harvested at full maturity to deliver the most muscular side of its flavor. It is accompanied by very spicy pepper notes and energized by the freshness of lemon. Likewise, its heart then develops toward cinnamon accents accompanied by the aromatic facet of clary sage. The whole becomes immediately addictive and almost aphrodisiac. Finally, Ultra Male closes its journey on an animalic and amber blend dominated by vanilla, cedar and patchouli. Like the original, this is a fragrance created by master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. As for the bottle, Ultra Male reclaims the torso so dear to Jean-Paul Gaultier. It is simply darker than before. It is housed in the disarming tin can iconic to this collection. It is now reinterpreted in a black color with hypnotic blue reflections. The whole is cut through by its name in red and adorned with a chain ready to catch one's breath with a single glance. Consider yourself warned: Ultra Male is the fragrance of a sailor with a woman in every port, whose charisma seems to leave no one indifferent.

Olfastory’s review

Le Male is a cult fragrance in men's perfumery, the best-seller of the Jean-Paul Gaultier house. Created in 1995, it has been winning over men's hearts across the planet for several decades now. Yet, far from resting on this achievement, creator Jean-Paul Petit decided to give it a worthy successor twenty years later, named Ultra Male. Although this is not the first reinterpretation of this legendary fragrance, it must be acknowledged as probably one of the most intense and virile. So, what is really behind this display of power? Here is our review.

The advertising

Released in 2015, Ultra Male is a reinterpretation of the iconic Male released in 1995. Sensual and ultra masculine, Ultra Male follows in the same line as its predecessor, mainly through lavender, Jean-Paul Gaultier's favorite ingredient. More muscular than its elder, Ultra Male exudes sensuality pushed to its peak. With its legendary torso-shaped bottle, Ultra Male displays a navy blue color, deeper than its elder. Here, Jean-Paul Gaultier once again shows his boldness and avant-garde side.

The meeting between Ultra Male and Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier

For his new advertising campaign, Jean-Paul Gaultier achieved two goals at once. The advertising clip titled On the Docks brings together, for the first time, Ultra Male and Classique. Still as passionate and in love as ever, since their first kiss fifteen years ago, the beauty and the sailor are drawn irresistibly to each other. The advertising clip unfolds to the rhythm of the unmistakable Casta Diva from Bellini's Norma. The advertising clip is in fact a succession of different scenes, recounting a love epic in which passion and desire are the key words. The advertising clip is directed by Johnny Green. It features a carnal and seductive face of the campaign wearing the iconic corset. She seems to be waiting patiently in her boudoir apartment for the object of her desire. Meanwhile, the sailor overcomes every obstacle to reach his beloved. With his fitted sailor top, muscular body, well-defined pectorals and finely sculpted glutes, Ultra Male represents virility in its purest form. Once reunited, the two lovers are guided by an almost animalic desire...

Jarrod Scott and Rianne Ten Haken in the Ultra Male ad

For fifteen years, Jean-Paul Gaultier has showcased two formidable lovers. To represent Ultra Male and Classique, Jean-Paul Gaultier called on Jarrod Scott and Rianne Ten Haken. Jarrod Scott is an Australian top model. Since posing for the cover of Vogue Homme International, Jarrod Scott has been everywhere! Because he takes great care of his body, Jarrod Scott displays a dream physique. He now walks the runway for the biggest names, Armani, Boss, Jean-Paul Gaultier. As for Rianne Ten Haken, she is originally from the Netherlands. At 1.80m tall with eyes the color of paradise, Rianne Ten Haken certainly does not go unnoticed. Rianne Ten Haken got her start by entering the Elite Model Look competition at the age of 15. She landed her first cover thanks to the Italian magazine Vogue. She quickly gained attention and walked the runway for the greatest fashion houses, Chanel, Versace and Armani among them. Today Rianne Ten Haken is a leading figure on fashion runways.

A sulfurous clip for a very virile fragrance. Ultra Male is a variation on the famous Male. Jean-Paul Gaultier wished to pair it with Classique to create a duo of lovers that could not be more glamorous.
