Ultra Male by Jean Paul Gaultier: a fragrance built entirely on virility. If Jean-Paul Gaultier is an artist defined in many ways, he remains inseparable from his emblematic sailor top. He elevated this garment to superstar status and declines it in every possible form, whether in couture or in perfume.
In 2015, Jean Paul Gaultier offers a new take on his famous Male, released in 1995, with Ultra Male. This year again, the male is dressed in his legendary sailor top, but he has traded his sailor's bundle for a leather jacket... Ultra virile, Ultra Male is also more rebellious than its predecessors. Ultra Male heightens the masculine side of every man by giving them the ability to be even more self-assured and to constantly push their limits. Handsome, strong and sexy, Ultra Male is the essence of a dark, brooding man.
Ultra Male, a creation signed Francis Kurkdjian
Francis Kurkdjian decided at a very young age to become a perfumer. Yet his father was an engineer and his mother worked in public education. He managed to gain admission to the renowned perfumery school, ISIPCA, and simultaneously pursued a graduate program at the Institut Supérieur de Marketing du Luxe. Genuine and demanding, Francis Kurkdjian is known as an exacting perfumer. He created the very first Male in 1995, when he was only 24 years old! A tremendous success that propelled Francis Kurkdjian into the spotlight. In 2001, he founded his own perfume house, in the Marais district of Paris, a custom-built workshop where he could give free rein to his creativity. After the success of Male, Jean-Paul Gaultier called on Francis Kurkdjian again to bring an extra dose of virility and make it the most seductive male fragrance one could encounter...
Ultra Male, a tug-of-war between virility and gourmand character
Ultra Male opens with the freshness and vivacity of bergamot. This is then joined by lavender, the signature ingredient found in every version of Male. Pear also brings a different tone, sweet with a gourmand aspect. The heart of Ultra Male is meant to be virile and powerful, which is why it combines cinnamon with cumin, a strong spice, itself enhanced by clary sage. Addictive, the composition then rises toward a very sensual, even animalic base. It combines cedar, vanilla, patchouli and amber. The silhouette resembles the original, but the color of the glass has intensified, mirroring its composition. The intense blue is also highlighted by the black stripes of the sailor top.
Twenty years after the tremendous success of Male, Jean Paul Gaultier presents Ultra Male. More virile, stronger and sexier, fashion's enfant terrible pushes masculinity here to its peak. As with Male, it fell to Francis Kurkdjian to take on the demanding task of imagining Ultra Male. While the composition is more virile, it is also more balanced and harmoniously alternates between particularly well-chosen ingredients.
