Where to buy

To recall the ambition that was his own, the house Yves Saint-Laurent created a perfume named Y in 2017. In 2021, this masculine Eau de Toilette reinvents itself and gives birth to Y Le Parfum.

Who is Y Le Parfum meant for?

As its name suggests, Y Le Parfum refers to the initial of the great couturier Yves Saint-Laurent. It is thus a nod to his avant-garde spirit, his ambition and his extraordinary craftsmanship. Because he revolutionized the image of fashion, but also because he never backed down from any challenge, Yves Saint-Laurent is considered one of the most striking figures of the last century. At the same time, by giving this Y to his perfume, Yves Saint-Laurent also echoes generation Y, that is, the men of tomorrow, building the future. Much more than a simple fragrance, Y Le Parfum is a manifesto of courage that urges every man to surpass himself and to always look further, to break free from tradition while respecting our heritage.

Y Le Parfum, an aromatic and powerful juice

To embody all this, Y Le Parfum reuses the main notes of its predecessors. The result is a perfume as fiery as it is powerful, whose vivacity emerges from the very first notes. Y Le Parfum opens on a fresh, zesty burst of grapefruit and aldehydes. This slight bitterness is quickly joined by crisp green apple, as well as by more peppery, soapy ginger. In doing so, the latter amplifies the aromatic aspect of this composition. Its heart, meanwhile, relies on aromatic raw materials such as sage, lavender and geranium. Its floral elegance is then followed by a woody sillage. It is at this moment that the darker side of Y Le Parfum appears, in a final cloud of cedar, patchouli and tonka bean.

The return of the emblematic Y bottle by Yves Saint-Laurent

Visually, Y Le Parfum keeps the silhouette of its predecessors. More specifically, it comes in a bottle forming a thick glass cube, streamlined and very contemporary. A metal notch appears on its sides, tracing a very original Y and bearing the name of the house Yves Saint-Laurent. The only difference: its blue color has completely disappeared in favor of a new opaque, satin-finish black. Very masculine, this preserves a certain elegance while heightening the intensity of this visual. Finally, on screen, Y Le Parfum has a face of the campaign of choice. It is embodied by the musician Lenny Kravitz, an icon of seduction and success with worldwide fame.

Olfastory’s review

Y, also called Y Man, is a perfume by Yves Saint-Laurent that appeared in 2017. Although fairly recent in the history of masculine compositions, it quickly won over a wide audience with its freshness and sense of cleanliness. A symbol of modernity and purity, Y has already been reinvented several times, becoming in turn an Eau de Parfum, Y Lives, or an Eau Fraîche. Yves Saint-Laurent likes to offer a new definition of it every year. 2021 did not escape this tradition, and the house unveils its new addition: Y Le Parfum. So how does it manage to reinvent itself once again? Here is our review.

Lenny Kravitz, ambassador of the Y line

Lenny Kravitz has been ambassador of the Y fragrances since 2020; his association with the 2021 vintage rests only on a community-sourced entry.

Lenny Kravitz has accompanied the Y fragrances by Yves Saint Laurent as global ambassador since 2020, that is, since the date of the 2021 launch. A community-sourced entry credits him as the face of the 2021 vintage campaign, a mention that this source itself presents as needing confirmation.

The line's campaign lineage includes a film for Y Eau de Toilette directed by Jessy Moussallem. The widely circulated film in which Kravitz appears on stage with a snake and a guitar belongs, however, to the campaign for the 2025 Y Le Parfum.
