Le Mâle Pride
A wave of solidarity with the new Le Mâle Pride from Jean-Paul Gaultier. The enfant terrible of fashion, Jean-Paul Gaultier never does anything like everyone else and never shies away from tackling taboo subjects. To give shape to the androgyny of our era, he has never hesitated to send men down the runway in skirts and to mix genders.

Where to buy
This is precisely what is at stake in his new fragrance. In 2020, Jean-Paul Gaultier reinvents his iconic perfume Le Mâle, turning it into Le Mâle Pride. As its name suggests, it is a nod to the iconic Gay Pride, an essential celebration for the gay community. So what about this new scent paying tribute to the LGBT cause?
Le Mâle Pride: Jean-Paul Gaultier loudly and proudly supports the gay community
It is no longer a secret to anyone: the designer Jean-Paul Gaultier is indeed gay. I understood very early on that I preferred boys, after seeing Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet. It's true that I was as attracted to Olivia Hussey as to Leonard Whiting, he reveals. But he provoked far more in me. There's also that scene in Rebel Without a Cause where James Dean and another actor roll around on the ground. I've always found it hard to see that as just a fight, explains Jean-Paul Gaultier with humor. Moreover, he does not hesitate to support this cause and considers himself a fervent defender of this motto: liberty, equality and frivolity! And that is precisely what his new fragrance evokes. As proof, Le Mâle carries on it the rainbow flag of the gay community, an LGBT symbol since 1978. Its flamboyant colors replace Jean-Paul Gaultier's famous sailor stripes and sit like a t-shirt on his torso-shaped bottle. The rainbow flag is unfurled as a pledge of tolerance, equality and peace. Here, it also appears on Jean-Paul Gaultier's packaging, which as always takes the shape of a tin can. With Le Mâle Pride, color is everywhere, and so is cheerfulness!
Le Mâle Pride changes its visual but not its fragrance
While Le Mâle Pride gets a new visual, its fragrance, on the other hand, remains exactly the same as before. It must be said that Jean-Paul Gaultier's composition manages to cross decades without ever aging. Created in 1995, this juice remains as modern and nonconformist as ever, unveiling an intense, Mediterranean freshness of mint and lavender. Here, it is first refreshed with bergamot, while being brightened with orange blossom. Then, spices such as cumin, cinnamon and cardamom lend more spirit to the whole. Gradually, Le Mâle Pride reveals all its sensuality in a smooth breath of vanilla and musk. Its masculinity, meanwhile, unfolds in a woody sillage of tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood.
