Replica Beach Walk

Replica Beach Walk is an Eau de Toilette by Maison Margiela launched in 2012, composed by Jacques Cavallier and Marie Salamagne. Bergamot, lemon and pink pepper open the formula, ylang-ylang, heliotrope and coconut milk occupy the middle, musk, cedar and benzoin close it. The house recreates the memory of a walk by the sea.

Critics credit Beach Walk with correctly rendering the smell of suntan oil and salty air, but find the result predictable once the opening has passed.

A well-rendered but expected beach memory

Jessica, of Now Smell This, credits the fragrance with correctly rendering the shared memory of suntan oil and sea air, while finding it redundant: numerous houses, from prestige to independent, had already bottled this smell.

She notes at the opening an almost dirty vetiver note, which reminds her of certain American seaside walks, and regrets that it fades in favor of a more conventional accord of citrus, ozone and coconut.

Her verdict on the first three Replica fragrances is harsh: soft rehashes of already-proven ideas, at a price she considers high for what they offer.
