Some perfumes are so famous that presenting them is almost unnecessary. At Jean-Paul Gaultier, Le Male is one of those stars that have shone across the globe for several decades. In 2020, it celebrates its 25th anniversary, giving Jean-Paul Gaultier the opportunity to reinvent it and reveal a new facet of its personality. Jean-Paul Gaultier thus presents the new Male Le Parfum, a juice that remains oriental but is much more contrasted than before. Presented in a black bust, it comes across as a chic, powerful and charismatic perfume. Jean-Paul Gaultier's traditional sailor seems to transform before our eyes into a true captain! So let's take a closer look at how its formula has been reinvented…

Two perfumers take over from Francis Kurkdjian

Let's begin with introductions and with revealing who crafted this new formula. Originally, in 1995, Le Male was created by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. As an aside, it was also his first creation upon leaving perfumery school. Thanks to it, Francis Kurkdjian was immediately propelled into the spotlight, going on to become one of the finest perfumers in the world. To take over, Jean-Paul Gaultier has therefore decided to call upon two other particularly talented noses: Quentin Bisch and Nathalie Grazia Cetto.

Lavender still the star of Le Male Le Parfum

While Le Male Le Parfum displays a personality quite different from Jean-Paul Gaultier's other creations, it nonetheless preserves the iconic element of this saga: Lavender. Indeed, this Mediterranean flower has been the star of this perfume since its very first launch. It is what gives this juice its dashing, invigorating character. Moreover, Lavender is a timeless staple of masculine perfumery, generally very well liked by men. Indeed, it has a somewhat retro quality and gives fragrances containing it a scent reminiscent of what could once be found in barbershops. In this sense, it is a nostalgic ingredient, evoking a slight wistfulness in some.

The olfactory contrasts of Jean-Paul Gaultier's Le Male Le Parfum

Finally, to surround this Lavender, Quentin Bisch and Nathalie Grazia Cetto chose to rely on highly contrasted and different ingredients. At first, they opted for a genuine burst of freshness, like the breeze striking the face while standing on the deck of a ship. This takes shape through a spicy yet very fresh addition of Cardamom. Gradually, however, warmth takes over again. Woody and oriental undertones come to anchor the masculinity of this perfume. For added sensuality, Le Male Le Parfum also contains Vanilla. Highly valued by perfumers, this raw material unfolds multiple facets here, appearing by turns animalic, smoky, suave and slightly powdery.
