Fables d’Orient is the amber floral of the collection L’Artisan Parfumeur launched in 2021 under the name L’Orient, since become Les Merveilles. Christophe Raynaud works there on an idea of floral milk: creamy heliotrope, peppery nutmeg, amber and cottony musks. A powdery, unisex oriental that the house files among its richest fragrances.
The house keeps three main notes and stops there: iris, nutmeg, amber. The breakdown by tier does not appear on its product page; it comes from the launch press text, which gives amber in the top, iris in the heart and nutmeg in the base.
An image of floral milk
The starting idea holds in an image the house repeats everywhere: a floral milk, texture as much as smell. Sun-soaked heliotrope is its declared embodiment, with its creamy, smooth grain and that slightly almondy powdery sweetness that characterizes the raw material.
Nutmeg, amber, musks
Nutmeg brings the warmth and the pepper, which the house gives as the addictive spring of the fragrance. Amber and cottony musk close the accord: the house makes them the last piece of the puzzle, the one that ensures the fragrance marries the skin of whoever wears it.
What surrounds the three notes
Wikiparfum widens the formula to incense and olibanum, to myrrh, to tonka bean, to honey and to vanilla. Raynaud himself names incense, myrrh, white iris and the musks: that resinous part, absent from the three displayed notes, is claimed by its author.
What the label declares
Eleven entries only: alcohol, fragrance, water, seven regulated allergens — coumarin, hydroxycitronellal, limonene, linalool, isoeugenol, eugenol, citral — and one ultraviolet filter, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane. The coumarin is consistent with the tonka bean noted by Wikiparfum.
