Explorer Platinum is the woody aromatic Eau de Parfum that Montblanc added to its Explorer line in 2023, on the theme of a climb into the high mountains. Bruno Jovanovic, Nathalie Lorson and Fabrice Pellegrin pair violet leaf with clary sage and cedar. A silver sleeve, inspired by one of the house’s watches, dresses the bottle.

Montblanc declares three materials: violet leaf at the top, clary sage at the heart and cedar at the base. Interparfums classes the fragrance among the woody aromatics, while other texts from the house describe a woody amber Eau de Parfum.

The house’s detailed description goes further. The opening pairs sparkling green notes of grapefruit, violet leaves and clary sage essence with an airy cypress accord, meant to recall the crystalline freshness of snow and ice.

Alaskan cedar and an amber accord

The base brings together the intensity of Alaskan cedar and an amber accord the house wants to be elegant. The whole leans toward a fresh, luminous moss, and a touch of musky woody notes adds richness and warmth.

Grapefruit, cypress, moss, amber and musk are not among the three declared notes. The house names them in its descriptions, from the opening to the base, without ever assigning them a specific tier.

What the label declares

The label declares linalool, coumarin, citronellol, limonene, citral and geraniol. Two UV filters, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, protect the formula from UV light, BHT slows its oxidation, and two colorants, CI 19140 and CI 14700, give it its tint.
