Olfactory pyramid: from light to darkness

Bergamot headshot

The composition opens on a flash of Italian bergamot, vivid as a burst of high-altitude air, the fresh signature of the entire Explorer line.

Earthy heart: patchouli & vetiver

Then comes a dark, slightly cocoa patchouli from Indonesia, paired with a vetiver from Haiti that is smokier than ever. This duo symbolizes the contrast between volcanic rock and tropical jungle that the adventurer crosses.

Leather-amber base: lasting adrenaline

The sillage explodes on a black leather accord sheathed in Ambrox®, reinforced by an amberwood note that extends the presence on skin for over ten hours.

Bottle: extreme sobriety

“Extreme” design in textured leather

Explorer Extreme reprises Explorer's cylindrical silhouette but dresses it in a black sleeve embossed with the “Extreme” motif drawn from Montblanc leather goods. The lacquered cap shines like the snow-capped peak of Mont Blanc, while the six-pointed star, the brand's emblem, sits atop the polished base.

The call of wide open spaces

Montblanc targets globe-trotting millennials who want a versatile fragrance, suited equally to a suit and a motorcycle jacket. Announced price: €110 for the 100 ml, a competitive value for money against niche rivals.

Olfastory’s review

Review: Explorer Extreme, the woody-leather perfume that touches the summits A longevity that crosses the 10-hour mark On normal skin, Explorer Extreme delivers a continuous presence between ten and twelve hours, evaluated during consumer tests conducted by Montblanc France. From the first hour, the leather-amber accord anchors itself in the keratin while the vetiver releases smoky facets that persist on fabric until the following morning.

The advertising

A manifesto film shot at the edges of Iceland

Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, starring Caius Lundin

To launch Explorer Extreme, Montblanc commissioned a one-minute TV spot by Jonas Åkerlund — known for his music videos with a contrasted aesthetic. The film, unveiled on May 28, 2025 on YouTube, shows Swedish freerider Caius Lundin climbing a volcanic ridge before diving into a smoking caldera, bottle strapped to his harness. Voice-over: What moves you, makes you.

Three-tier narrative structure

Tier 1 — The ascent: drone shot above the Sólheimajökull glacier, a trail of snow lifted like a streak of fresh bergamot.• Tier 2 — The crossing: lateral tracking shot over a lava field; the hero draws the perfume, close-up on the textured leather sleeve.• Tier 3 — The leap: cliff-diving into a black fjord, water-stone contact symbolizing the leather/amber clash of the juice. The camera pulls back: the bottle spins on itself, six-pointed star facing the lens.

Print visuals: the icy lens of Craig McDean

Black & steel chromatics

Photographer Craig McDean shot the print campaign on the pebble beach of Reynisfjara: graphite sky, steel-colored sea, basalt rocks — a perfect palette for the black leather-gloved bottle. The tagline “Beyond The Peak” appears in white letters, Montblanc typeface, echoing the brilliance of the bergamot against a dark leather background.

“Mapping” double page

A second visual juxtaposes Lundin's face, streaked with ice traces, and a topographic map that follows the contours of his skin. The message: the explorer carries within him the cartography of his future conquests — a nod to the house's “travel instrument” DNA.

Digital rollout: social-first & 3D immersion

#BeyondThePeak TikTok challenge

From June 1st, an AR filter lets users overlay a snowy ridge around themselves; a virtual spray makes the Montblanc star rise above their head. In five days: 82 M views and 430 K videos generated.

Anamorphic DOOH at Times Square

A giant LED screen displays a sequence where the bottle appears to shatter the facade before unleashing a wave of icy water into the street; the QR code to the online store appears as the star reforms.
