Boss Bottled

The house describes Boss Bottled in three stages. At the top, fresh apple and citrus give a fruity opening; the heart, floral and spicy, pairs geranium, cinnamon and a touch of clove, which the house wants to be warm.

Woods and a vanilla

The base brings together sandalwood, cedar and vetiver, which the house describes as a decidedly masculine harmony. Its French description adds vanilla, which, along with the apple and cinnamon, justifies the gourmand label it claims today.

Yesterday’s notes

Older descriptions opened on plum, apple and lemon, placed carnation and mahogany next to the cinnamon, and kept a base of woods. Charles-Philippe of Bespoke Unit also cites plum and bergamot among the opening notes.

What stays out

The oakmoss and olive tree often attributed to the fragrance appear in no description from the house. The plum and lemon named in the past give way to an opening of apple and citrus, the one the house describes today.

What the label declares

The current European label declares linalool, limonene, citral, citronellol, eugenol, cinnamaldehyde, geraniol, and benzyl benzoate. A filter and a stabilizer protect the formula from light, and two colorants, one yellow, the other blue, tint the liquid.

On a gift set sold in the United States, the house details the fragrance further: vanillin, which echoes the vanilla in its French description, cinnamon bark and bitter orange peel oils, rose ketones, and three synthetic molecules, acetyl cedrene, Iso E Super, and galaxolide.

Lyral, a molecule banned in the European Union, no longer appears on that label; the house still declares it on its American page for the eau de toilette alone, along with two filters different from the European one.
