Cèdre, a magnificent successor to a now legendary Féminité du Bois, will take you on a journey through a gourmand and amber Lebanon or Morocco, close to the memories of Lutens the artist.

Cèdre, or the scent of Cèdre Lutens… not Serge Lutens!

Serge Lutens is in love with cedar, this precious wood that takes on multiple honeyed, golden, sensual, mysterious and captivating scents. So much so that his very first perfume, Féminité du Bois, would become its masterpiece, with an exceptional concentration of 60% of this tender and fleshy wood.

Yet from this very first masterpiece of perfumery, Lutens announced: One day, I will make a perfume that will be called Cèdre. He had to wait until 2005 to bring this beautiful spicy woody fragrance, Cèdre, out of his dreams and memories.

While one might expect a perfume named Cèdre to give off scents of undergrowth and autumn, this is hardly the case. Besides, if one were to expect Lutens to make an “expected” perfume, one would surely be mistaken about the perfumer. All the more so since, for Lutens, cedar is precisely the tree that best represents him, in which he finds an echo of his character and his life path.

Cèdre could therefore be one of the most dreamed-of perfumes by Lutens, so much does the path it offers toward gourmand character and sensuality echo his Moroccan comforts, his monastic refuge in Marrakech where he shelters from the world to better wrap himself in sweetness.

Cèdre, or Lutens’s “wooden pastry”

For Cèdre, the bottle so emblematic of Lutens perfumes takes on a golden juice delicately touched with a hint of amber, almost reaching the divine color of honey. A clear indication of the depth of composition of this vibrant woody fragrance.

When creating Féminité du Bois, Serge Lutens already evoked cedar as: Sweet, resinous, feral, this carpenter’s pastry had captivated me. So of course, for the one he named Cèdre, it was necessary to present this beautiful tree in its most gourmand version. From the very first moment in this play of woody light, the notes turn soft and sweet, led by a tender and velvety honey that irresistibly draws one into the heart of this Cèdre. There, tuberose offers the best of its rich floral, earthy and honeyed facets, showcasing the king of the fragrance, our majestic Atlas cedar. A cedar spiced with lovely, fragrant and intoxicating cinnamon and clove. Yet the depth of this king of woods gives way to an amber and musky sensuality, so as never to be forgotten.

Cèdre is described by Lutens as a different Féminité, in another reality. Although sharing the same prestigious host, cedar, Féminité du Bois and Cèdre cannot be confused, since the gourmand character of this new cedarwood refuses to blend with the mysterious and fantastical depths of the very first perfume. In offering us Cèdre, Lutens thus presents a magnificent, entirely innovative and unprecedented floral “wooden pastry.”
