Where to buy

Very quickly embraced, Thierry Hermès's boutique was a success and an essential destination in the capital. Today, the brand has diversified and its talents are numerous. In tribute to the novel by Guy de Maupassant, Bel Ami was released in 1986. In order to offer a variation without breaking the codes of leather, Hermès presented Bel Ami Vétiver in 2014.

Jean-Claude Ellena's composition

Released in 1986, Bel Ami is a very masculine fragrance, telling the story of Maupassant's hero. Both virile and combative, the Bel Ami man appeared very powerful. Ambiguity and intrigue were then part of the composition, which showcased leather, an ultra-masculine raw material. In 2014, Jean-Claude Ellena, Hermès's exclusive perfumer since 2004, decided to bring Bel Ami up to date, so that it could be rediscovered. While it still stems from Guy de Maupassant's hero, Bel Ami Vétiver then appears as a fresh take on the heritage of the house of Hermès. Without altering the structure, Jean-Claude Ellena gave Bel Ami a new identity that propels it into the twenty-first century. Jean-Claude Ellena writes his composition here, signed by another raw material, vetiver.

Bel Ami Vétiver, the light of warm vetiver

From chypre leather to woody leather, the light of vetiver takes over with Bel Ami Vétiver. It opens with citrus notes, paired with spicy notes. The heart is dominated by vetiver, fresh, luminous and smooth. It is joined by woody notes. Bel Ami Vétiver develops toward a leathery sillage accompanied by oakmoss. Noble and audacious, the fragrance transports us into a new world. The bottle takes up the shapes of its predecessor. It is presented in the standard, classic bottle of the house of Hermès. It features a glass column with rounded corners inspired by the lanterns of horse-drawn carriages of days past. Since 2014, all classic Hermès bottles have followed the same line.

A very successful revisit, with the introduction of a new ingredient, vetiver. Warm and luminous, it gives Bel Ami Vétiver a very suave accent, full of sensuality. The new identity of Bel Ami is young, modern and virile. The classic bottle takes up the codes of Hermès's iconic bottles. Once again, Hermès succeeds in creating a variation, a fragrance that is both old and modern.
