Where to buy

The house managed to revolutionize the world of perfumery, notably with Pour un Homme in 1934. A bold bet for the time, and yet it has blown out 80 candles. In 1976, the house of Caron presented Yatagan, a warm, woody and full-bodied fragrance… Another great success.

Yatagan, the symbol of the Turkish sabre

Yatagan actually refers to a Turkish sabre, a curved-blade weapon. Probably derived from the machaira, the yatagan gave its shape to 19th-century bayonets. It should also be noted that, just before the French colonization of Algeria, the yatagan was used for the decapitation of those condemned to death in that country. The composition of Caron's Yatagan evokes liquid leather, whose color it also shares. Yatagan also invites travel, following in the footsteps of Ottoman horsemen. One imagines the Orient and its distant, mysterious lands. The temperament of this fragrance thus matches those far-off lands: warm, full-bodied, sharp and thoroughly charismatic.

The warm and mysterious notes of Yatagan

Yatagan is a surprising accord of herbs and wood, a chypre devoid of floral notes. Yatagan opens with the combination of mugwort, lavender, petitgrain and absinthe notes. The heart is filled with wood and sensuality through patchouli, vetiver, geranium and pine needles. Finally, the base releases strong leathery notes. These are paired with animalic notes through the presence of labdanum cistus, castoreum and styrax. It should also be noted that the composition is entirely devoid of any floral notes. As for the bottle, it resembles the other fragrances in the men's line. Masculine and understated, it reveals its golden amber-colored juice for pure seduction… Leathery and warm, the composition takes you toward the lands of the Orient, unknown territories. Let your imagination, your desires and your longings wander; you will not be disappointed.

If Caron has produced a great many olfactory creations, Yatagan is unquestionably one of them. The composition is as original as can be, especially for its time. At last, an oriental for men containing neither honey nor amber. The fragrance bears the name of a Turkish sabre, which is an ode to travels in the Orient. Yatagan smells of escape, imagination and distant lands. Yatagan is also eccentric and unprecedented, as it contains no floral notes whatsoever. It is an ultra-masculine, warm, strong and woody fragrance. One could say that Yatagan is loved or disliked, but it leaves no one indifferent.
