Pour Un Homme
Pour un Homme by Caron, an iconic fragrance. The founder of the Caron house was named Ernest Daltroff. He was born in 1867 in Haute-Loire. In 1902, together with his brother Raoul, he acquired a haberdashery-perfumery, the Émilia house.

Where to buy
He renamed his boutique Caron, simply after the name of the former owner. From its inception, the Caron brand was dedicated solely to perfumery. It was in 1934 that Caron unveiled Pour un Homme. A small olfactory revolution, Pour un Homme has a light air, a fresh scent at the heart of that carefree interwar period.
Pour un Homme by Caron, seduction 80 years on
In 1934, most men who wore fragrance used eaux de toilette or eaux de Cologne. At that time, perfumes were, in any case, intended for women. By creating Pour un Homme, the Caron house became a true pioneer. Ernest Daltroff was particularly fond of lavender, so it was only natural that he chose this plant to compose his fragrance. He decided to pair it with vanilla, the favorite scent of his collaborator, who later became his wife, Félicie Wanpouille. A bold bet for the time, but a winning one. The formula and the bottle have remained unchanged since 1934. Only its name changed during the war, becoming Pour une Femme. Indeed, brands created by Jewish people were heavily taxed. Ernest Daltroff decided to exile himself to the United States and rename his fragrance in order to save it. After the war, he gave it back its name, Pour un Homme, and success was immediate.
The dominant lavender of Pour un Homme
Pour un Homme is centered around a dominant note, lavender. Fresh and aromatic, it is combined with the warmth of vanilla. The pairing of two seemingly contradictory notes is in fact the key to this composition's success. Pour un Homme opens on the floral and aromatic notes of lavender. This is paired with the fresh, citrus notes of lemon and bergamot, as well as an aromatic note, rosemary, for even more freshness. These accords recall those of eaux de Cologne, very fashionable in the 1920s. The heart features rose paired with sage, cedarwood and precious woods, giving the composition all its refinement. Finally, the base is made up of vanilla, the other important note in this juice. It is enhanced by tonka bean, amber, oakmoss and white musks. As for the bottle, it is meant to be understated and masculine, just as at its creation. Simple and minimalist, it reveals its apple-green colored juice. It is topped with a silver-toned metal cap for added elegance.
Pour un Homme by Caron celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2014! Despite its age, it remains just as appealing and has achieved iconic status. Its bold bet for the time is a timeless success, having stood the test of time without aging a bit. But is it not the hallmark of all great perfumes to transcend eras and continue to seduce without betraying themselves?
