Y Iced Cologne

Yves Saint Laurent classifies Y Iced Cologne as an aromatic fougère. The composition sets a mentholated freshness, carried by a cooling molecule, against a woody base of ambroxan and patchouli.

Top, heart and base

The house publishes this breakdown: at the top, a fresh icy mint and Arctical; at the heart, a living mint accord and a blue sage accord, both from the Ourika; at the base, ambroxan and patchouli.

Here the notes are classified as follows: mint at the top; mint and sage at the heart; ambroxan and patchouli at the base. Arctical, a molecule proprietary to IFF, is not part of the note classification and stays in prose.

An icy mint

For the top, the house’s British store describes a peppermint accompanied by a living mint from the Ourika, whose cold sensation Arctical accentuates. At the base, ambroxan and an Indonesian patchouli essence anchor the trail in the woods and bring, it says, sophistication and sensuality.

What the label declares

After alcohol, fragrance and water, the list names tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, a woody, ambery molecule, and carvone, with hints of spearmint. Menthol and peppermint and spearmint oils confirm the fragrance’s theme.

Bergamot, lemon, patchouli, geranium and lavender oils round out the list, along with acetyl cedrene, which smells of cedar, coumarin and several declared allergens, including linalool and limonene.

A UV filter, avobenzone, protects the juice, which five colorants, violet, blue, orange yellow, red and yellow, tint glacial blue. The list contains neither lilial nor lyral, two ingredients banned in the European Union.
