Very quickly he attracted attention, as he provoked and upended the already established codes of fashion. He supported the freedom of women, the liberation of hearts, posed nude for one of his perfumes... The couturier was not afraid and imposed his vision of the world. His revolutionary collections were worn all over the world. In 1988, YSL unveiled “Jazz”, a very distinctive olfactory movement.

Jazz is a musical movement born in the United States at the beginning of the twentieth century. Jazz carries within it the weight of history, but also brings together all the different American cultures. Through the perfume “Jazz”, YSL wished to recreate olfactorily these multiple cultures and the contrast that this entails. The “Jazz” man appears virile, yet sensitive, not hesitating, for the occasion, to show his weaknesses. “Jazz” reveals itself to be all the complex facets of men. This only increases the richness and strength of the “Jazz” fragrance, contributing to heightening its charm. “Jazz” embodies the perfume of an entire generation that wants to be free. The woody and aromatic notes of the Jazz perfume

It was the perfumer Jean-François Latty who created this original fragrance. This woody-aromatic composition evolves throughout the composition like a piece of jazz. The “Jazz” sensitivity gradually evolves toward an unmatched strength and intensity. “Jazz” opens with the freshness of bergamot combined with that of aromatic notes such as basil and lavender. Star anise brings, in addition, a slightly exotic touch. The heart of “Jazz” evolves toward a more floral accord, yet nonetheless more masculine. Geranium and carnation are paired with clary sage as well as with a touch of cinnamon spice. The atmosphere here is more fiery and the base reveals a warm, sensual, even carnal sillage, as it combines amber, tonka bean, sandalwood as well as leathery notes. The bottle is that of all the fragrances that belong to the “Collection des Parfums Classiques”. The bottle takes the shape of a clean-lined glass cube. It is also encircled by a black label, Yves Saint Laurent's signature color, on which the name of the perfume is displayed. The black bottle contrasts with the transparency of the glass. Elegant, the “Jazz” bottle reveals only the essential.
