Luna Rossa is the men’s Eau de Toilette that Prada launched in September 2012, named after the sailing team the house entered in the America’s Cup. Daniela Andrier composed an aromatic fougère in which bitter orange and lavender meet clary sage and mint, over a base of ambroxan and ambrette. Yves Béhar designed its aluminum and glass bottle.
Prada describes the Eau de Toilette in three stages. At the top, bitter orange essence meets lavender. The heart pairs clary sage with Nanah mint, and the base brings together ambroxan and ambrette absolute.
Lavender, the leading note
Lavender leads the composition, which the house describes as swept by a wave of aromatic freshness, between mint and clary sage. Prada classifies the whole as an aromatic fougère and sometimes describes it through three materials: lavender, spearmint and amber.
The house’s texts vary on the order of the notes: some open on spearmint, make lavender the heart of the fragrance and set an amber base, while the detailed description places lavender at the top, alongside bitter orange.
What the label declares
The label declares, among others, limonene, linalool, coumarin, isoeugenol, citral, citronellol, geraniol and benzyl alcohol. Two UV filters, ethylhexyl salicylate and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, protect the formula from light; the color comes from a dye, CI 60730.
