Daniela Andrier

Daniela Andrier is without question one of the most elegant figures in perfumery. She has a Hitchcockian beauty paired with a particularly refined look. Fittingly, she embodies her own perfumery, and her formulas suit her natural beauty perfectly. Daniela Andrier's love of scents: while some perfumers claim to have felt a kind of gift for their future profession from an early age, this was not exactly the case for Daniela Andrier. She confides that as a child, she was convinced that everyone smelled things the same way she did. So even though she took an interest in scents and perfume very early on, she was convinced this was entirely normal. Even now, she retains a great many olfactory memories from that period.

She also recalls the scent of myrtle from her baby cream, her grandmother's Miss Dior, her aunt's N°19 by Chanel, the smells of her vacations in Italy… It is in fact still in these memories that she draws her inspiration. Likewise, when her uncle died, she found comfort in immersing herself in scents evocative of him. It was through scents that she managed to reconnect with her memories and emotions, as though nothing had been broken by his passing. As a child, however, she did not know that the profession of perfumer existed, and it was only much later that she moved in that direction. In fact, this young German woman initially intended to study philosophy at the Sorbonne, in Paris, a city she moved to at the age of 13 without speaking a single word of French. It was a chance encounter that led her to question her path…

Daniela Andrier's career

While studying literature, she met someone at a dinner who said she would have loved to become a perfumer but that chronic sinusitis prevented her from pursuing that path. This statement hit her like a bombshell. She realized then that this was the profession she had always wanted to pursue. The very next day, she took the phone book and called Yves Saint-Laurent to ask about the possible paths to becoming a perfumer. That is how she learned of ISIPCA, one of the best perfumery schools in the world. However, to gain admission, a high level in chemistry is required, which she did not have. On the verge of giving up on her project, she then met Jacques Polge, perfumer at the house of Chanel, through a friend. He opened the door to perfumery for her and arranged for her to complete an internship in his laboratory as well as another at Robertet. This subsequently allowed her to join the Givaudan perfumery school, a company she has never left and for which she still works today as a master perfumer.

Daniela Andrier is a creator who likes to use perfume to take us on a journey through time. A fragrance, in her view, is always a thread connecting the past, the present and the future. Although never lacking in boldness, perfume should, in her view, always evoke a sense of déjà vu reminiscent of memory. Among her most famous creations are Infusion d'œillet by Prada, Miu Miu by the eponymous house, Le Monde Est Beau by Kenzo, Angélique Noire by Guerlain, and Luna Rossa by Prada, to name only a few.
