Luna Rossa

Luna Rossa is the men’s Eau de Toilette that Prada launched in September 2012, named after the sailing team the house entered in the America’s Cup. Daniela Andrier composed an aromatic fougère in which bitter orange and lavender meet clary sage and mint, over a base of ambroxan and ambrette. Yves Béhar designed its aluminum and glass bottle.

Robin, at Now Smell This, found the Eau de Toilette well made in 2012 and considerably more elegant than the average sport fragrance, without it winning her over.

What critics say

Robin, Now Smell This, December 2012

Robin, of Now Smell This, described in December 2012 a broad, soft lavender, smoothed of its natural rough edges, in an herbal opening where mint and clary sage come through. A cold, metallic and very citrusy finish places the fragrance, in her eyes, among modern sporty masculines.

At no point does she find it marine, at most a passing whiff of salt air. As it dries down, the Eau de Toilette turns woodier and muskier, increasingly soapy, ending in a creamy woody musk that reminds her of Amber pour Homme and Infusion d’Homme.

She judges it well made, far more elegant than the average sport fragrance, without it sweeping her off her feet. She prefers Amber pour Homme or Infusion d’Homme, and would gladly see it given to a fan of sport fragrances.
