When Daniela Andrier and Sylvaine Delacourte organize their olfactory big bang for Angélique Noire

Just as was the case for Cuir Beluga composed by Thierry Wasser, the birth of Angélique Noire is tied to the wonderful encounter between Daniela Andrier and Sylvaine Delacourte, then creative director for Guerlain. Sylvaine Delacourte wanted to play with contrasts to surprise, and with Daniela Andrier, she had worked on a project of that kind that had never been released. She therefore called on the great perfumer once again, along with her fabulous angelica note, in order to finally complete their shared project under the seal of the house of Guerlain. It would be named Angélique Noire.

The idea behind the creation of this fragrance was to dress vanilla in a new way, to find, in a sense, an unusual companion, to find its opposite, to create a contrast. Sylvaine Delacourte on Angélique Noire, Guerlain.

The two women thus created an explosion of scents between an angelica rarely used in perfumery, yet very green and radiant, and a suave, deep vanilla of the kind Guerlain knows how to produce and select. Orchestrated as a meeting of opposites, Angélique Noire is also a meeting between two talented women, as well as a meeting between the house’s prestigious past, symbolized by vanilla, and the modernity of an original, unprecedented angelica note.

Sylvaine Delacourte holds a particular fondness for angelica, which she readily associates with her fondest childhood memories. Daniela Andrier, a perfumer at Givaudan, used her talent to craft a sharp, green and fresh angelica note that only asked to flourish in a fragrance. For the L’Art et la Matière collection, the two women were brought together to compose a fragrance suited to their shared vision, Angélique Noire of course!

Angélique Noire first offers a radiant, ultra-dynamic opening of pink pepper paired with the famous angelica flower, plant-like yet powerfully fresh. A lovely pear then wraps everything in its fruity smoothness. The heart of Angélique Noire, meanwhile, plays on beautiful contrasts between the opulence and delicacy of sambac jasmine, surprisingly paired with an irresistible aromatic caraway seed. As for the depths, they too are marked by a marriage of opposites, where the woody edge of cedar joins angelica root to meet a gourmand, suave and deep vanilla. Between intense warmth and coolness, Angélique Noire does not choose, it transcends its materials!
