Launched by Lancôme in 1995 and signed by Jacques Cavallier, Poême sets out to “say it all without a word.” The house describes it as a fragrance of shadow and light: the frosty Himalayan blue poppy answers the opulent, carnal datura flower, among white and yellow blooms, orange blossom, mimosa, jasmine. A vanilla base rounds it out. Juliette Binoche was its face from 1995 to 2000.
In 2011, Victoria of Bois de Jasmin saw in Poême a fine idea of oriental orange blossom handled with too heavy a hand. Nicoleta Tomsa of ÇaFleureBon and Elena Vosnaki of Perfume Shrine, by contrast, find a honeyed, sunny, dense floral, brimming with orange blossom and mimosa.

A weighed-down idea
On May 6, 2011, Victoria of Bois de Jasmin recalled a shrill, synthetic Poême, now richer in natural materials than many launches. She sees in it an oriental orange blossom executed with too heavy a hand: “a nicely cut dress made out of a cheap fabric.”
Beneath the blue poppy story, she smells a tuberose and orange blossom accord in the classic oriental manner, over warm musk and balsamic vanilla. A heavy amber reminds her of Red Door and White Diamonds, a peppery green of Estée and Spellbound. She gives it two stars.
A honeyed floral
On September 26, 2020, Nicoleta Tomsa of ÇaFleureBon described her autumn fragrance: a top of syrupy fruit, bergamot, mandarin, plum, peach, blackcurrant; a yellow, bittersweet nectar where orange blossom is surrounded by freesia, jasmine, a discreet tuberose, rose, and mimosa.
She thinks of Georgia O’Keeffe’s flowers. The base, where vanilla takes center stage with amber, musk, and tonka bean, recalls the 1990s for her; to her, the current formula remains a honeyed, bittersweet floral, true to its spirit.
A yellow fragrance
On July 10, 2025, Elena Vosnaki of Perfume Shrine wrote that the crocus yellow of the box tells Poême’s story better than the blue of the poppy. She finds it dense, brimming with honeyed orange blossom, softened by mimosa and vanilla, and wildly optimistic, especially in small doses.
