Noir de Noir

Tom Ford launched Noir de Noir in 2007 with Private Blend, a collection of twelve unisex fragrances announced by Women’s Wear Daily early that year. It sits alongside Tobacco Vanille, Oud Wood, Tuscan Leather and Neroli Portofino, among others.

The materials set aside

Tom Ford told WWD, as quoted by Perfume Posse, that while creating Black Orchid he kept setting aside materials he liked, too expensive for a widely distributed fragrance or too unusual to appeal to everyone. He eventually developed them for his own store.

Osmoz reports that he presents Private Blend as his perfume laboratory, a place to create unusual fragrances, free of conventions.

A chypre oriental according to Tom Ford

According to Women’s Wear Daily, as relayed by Now Smell This, the designer describes Noir de Noir as a chypre oriental built on patchouli and tree moss. No perfumer is named.

Distribution and sizes

Now Smell This announced the collection in the Tom Ford store on Madison Avenue, at Bergdorf Goodman and in a selection of Saks and Neiman Marcus stores, in 50 ml and in a large 250 ml size. The eau de parfum is now sold in 50 and 100 ml.
