Coco Chanel is an iconic figure of the last century. Very often associated with feminine emancipation, she turned French couture and perfumery into luxuries with worldwide reach. As such, some of Chanel's fragrances stand as true icons.
The Classic Bottle, beveled, by Chanel in 50 and 100 ml, released in red glass in 2018 then in a convex Drop bottle blown by Koa Glass in 2024.
Chanel refers to the packaging as the Classic Bottle: beveled glass with a crystalline appearance, fitted with a continuous-mist spray. Two sizes accompany the launch, 50 and 100 ml.
A limited edition in red-tinted glass, in the 100 ml size, is released in 2018 alongside the N°5 Eau de Parfum. In 2024 another limited edition appears, called Drop: an oblong and convex bottle, without a flat base, therefore unstable, designed to sit in the palm of the hand, with the 2016 formula unchanged. Its size is 50 ml, and the press links this drop to Marilyn Monroe's answer about the few drops of N°5.
The smooth, monolithic shape of the Drop bottle takes up that of the Crème Main N°5 L'Eau. Its design, technical development and production took eighteen months for Chanel's teams and their suppliers. The bottle is blown by the Japanese glassmaker Koa Glass, already responsible for the case of the 31 Le Rouge lipstick, and the pressed glass cap comes from the Austrian supplier Technoglass, part of the Cerve group. The glass incorporates 15% post-consumer recycled material. Sylvie Legastelois, director of packaging and design at Chanel, describes the object as a feat of glassmaking.
