Having become iconic, this fragrance was reinterpreted to bring it a breath of modernity by the remarkable Jacques Polge, who created in 2009 “Cristalle Eau Verte”, with its sublime breath of magnolia...

“Cristalle Eau Verte” or the sparkling, natural and slightly sophisticated woman!

Why not take advantage of the splendors of an iconic fragrance to give birth, 25 years later, to a second, more modern fragrance revisited with the latest olfactory discoveries? It was starting from this idea that Chanel decided to bring “Cristalle” back to life — the first fragrance released after the death of Coco Chanel — under the skillful hands of Jacques Polge, the house perfumer.

“Cristalle Eau Verte” aims to be the worthy heir of that intense breath of freshness that “Cristalle” brought in the 1970s. A fresh air of honeysuckle and citrus scents that would be represented by a publication campaign highlighting soft, very “natural” faces of the campaign.

According to Chanel, CRISTALLE EAU VERTE draws inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel's taste for outdoor living, from a femininity that is both natural and sophisticated. It was therefore necessary to choose worthy representatives of this art of living, at once simple and elegant. The blondness and freshness of the young top model Claudia Schiffer, as well as the natural beauty of Cindy Crawford, thus served as the example to follow for the latest addition, “Cristalle Eau Verte”.

When Jacques Polge revisits the iconic “Cristalle” by Chanel to modernize it...

The “Cristalle” woman is natural, spontaneous and luminous without losing her sense of values and traditions, for let us not forget she remains a Chanel woman! As a result, although “Cristalle Eau Verte” has been modernized in its composition, its elongated bottle remains, though now tinted with a light green color evoking the natural power of its new juice.

This lovely green floral opens on scents of bergamot and lemon, offering sparkling freshness that gently leads us toward heart notes of neroli, jasmine and magnolia. These citrus and jasmine notes, crafted from noble raw materials, offer their purity and their floral power to this heart of “Cristalle Eau Verte”, which unfolds freely into depths of white flowers, airy and poetic.

Thus “Cristalle Eau Verte” may not be as green as all that! Indeed, the green facet is much more evoked than actually present in the fragrance, which aims to be far more representative of natural bursts of freedom than of raw natural facets. For the “Cristalle Eau Verte” woman remains a Chanel woman, the worthy heir of the famous, sparkling Coco, in love with freedom!

Olfastory’s review

Over the course of the last century, men and women developed a taste for getting away and taking time for themselves. Outdoor activities thus experienced considerable growth. This did not escape perfumers either. Gradually, nature became an inexhaustible source of inspiration. This is how it gave rise to the feminine fragrance Cristalle by Chanel, in 1974. Then, in 1993, Jacques Polge crafted a more sensual edition of it. Cristalle Eau Verte, meanwhile, is much more recent. It modernizes the original accord of Cristalle and appeared in 2009. So, let us look in more detail at what sets it apart from its predecessors.
