Where to buy

As if to echo its prestigious heritage, the house of Rochas has decided to bring one of its most famous perfumes of yesteryear back into fashion. Moustache by Rochas is now becoming a more sensual Eau de Parfum. Before presenting this new fragrance, let us tell its original story…

Moustache, a small revolution in the world of men's perfumes

Men have their fashion accessories: ties, hats, shoes, and so on, their jewelry: cufflinks, signet rings… why shouldn't they also have a perfume that expresses their personality? This is how Marcel Rochas came up with the idea of creating a men's perfume as we understand it today. Yet, while this may seem trivial now, the trend at the time was quite different. Men simply finished their grooming routine by applying an Eau de Cologne, fresh but often sorely lacking in personality and longevity. Moustache therefore preserved the freshness of these fragrances while adding more virility to them. This marked the beginnings of modern perfumery, and some consider it one of the first men's perfumes to have truly existed. As for its name, Marcel Rochas drew inspiration from one of his visits to the Louvre museum. Fascinated by the portrait of Charles I of England hunting, a bearded and mustachioed man, he decided to name his perfume Moustache. Like this historical figure, this fragrance is the very embodiment of virility and a conquering spirit. It is the masculine representation par excellence.

Moustache by Rochas, a fresh and woody fougère presented in a crystal amphora

Moustache by Rochas draws inspiration from traditional Eaux de Cologne and preserves all their freshness. Nevertheless, it also contains more woody, infinitely masculine and virile facets. Citrus forms the starting point of this composition, blending lime, bergamot, orange and petitgrain. The heart of this perfume, meanwhile, proves more aromatic. Possessing the structure characteristic of the so-called fougère style in men's perfumery, this fragrance is enriched with a woodier base of patchouli, vetiver, pine, birch and sandalwood. The whole is further dominated by the more pronounced power of oakmoss. Moustache has always been presented in the same bottle. It draws direct inspiration from the curves of the amphorae characteristic of Rochas women's perfumes. This ribbed glass cylinder rests on a stable base, a perfect echo of its poise and virility. Its red label, meanwhile, reveals a T shaped like a moustache, a small nod to its name. Originally, Moustache by Rochas was presented in Baccarat crystal bottles. Today, only a few models reserved for collectors still carry this prestige.
