Eau de Rochas
Eau de Rochas, the quintessential Rochas fragrance The story of the house of Rochas began in 1925 when Marcel Rochas, aged 23, founded his couture house. He envisioned a fashion inspired by audacity, joie de vivre and elegance. His vision of femininity, at once comfortable and highly elegant, quickly won over the whole world.

Where to buy
It only lacked a perfume to accompany its outfits. This is how Rochas launched into fragrance creation as early as 1945. Nevertheless, the house’s best-known product was created in 1970. As one might have guessed, it is the essential Eau de Rochas.
A waterfall bottled by Rochas
The story of Eau de Rochas began in 1969 when Nicolas Mamounas, the official nose of the house of Rochas, took a trip to Greece. One morning, he watched the sun rise over Delphi and was simply captivated by the beauty of this place and this almost magical moment of the day. He was fascinated by the golden rays of light reflecting on a nearby spring. The bluish waterfall in question is called the Castalian Spring, a place also symbolic for the Greeks, as legend has it that it witnessed many of the famous Pythia’s oracles. In this place, scents mingle: wild grass, the dampness of dew, mountain flowers, a mineral quality… It is all of this that inspired the scent of Eau de Rochas for Nicolas Mamounas. At first, he decided to develop a juice which he named Eau de Roche. This only became Eau de Rochas much later, in 1983. It is a perfume that instantly won the hearts of the public, achieving equally immense success with both men and women.
The androgynous freshness of Eau de Rochas
Initially, Eau de Rochas was not conceived to be a unisex product. Yet it became one nonetheless. Indeed, it possesses an extraordinary freshness that allows it to win over all consumers. Nevertheless, it does not lack spark and asserts a certain dose of impertinence. Its opening is as limpid as spring water. It sparkles thanks to citrus notes, notably Sicilian lime, grapefruit, bergamot and Calabrian mandarin. Likewise, more green notes also play a part, such as verbena. Eau de Rochas then gradually reveals a smoother heart based on mountain narcissus, jasmine flower, rose, gardenia and wild rose. Its chypre quality comes from cistus. Finally, Eau de Rochas rests on a woodier base, from which emerges a scent of sandalwood, oakmoss and patchouli. The whole is also stirred by a hint of ambergris and myrrh, which only heighten its sensuality. Likewise, Eau de Rochas is also very famous for its bottle. It has finely worked crystal walls. It is a little as if it were a block of glass carved directly from raw rock. Finally, the whole is topped with a round cap resembling quartz, elevating this already very refined ensemble.

The advertising
Released in 1970, Eau de Rochas is the greatest success of the Rochas brand. Initially, Eau de Rochas was meant to be nothing more than an ultra-fresh unisex fragrance. Gradually, Nicolas Mamounas added spicy and rather daring notes to it. Eau de Rochas is a timeless cult perfume. With its explosive freshness, at once aquatic and mineral, Eau de Rochas breaks away from the trends of its time. Crafted while displaying a raw appearance, the Eau de Rochas bottle gives the impression of a rock from which the water actually flows… An iconic bottle for a most magical essence.
