Les Cascades de Rochas Songe d'Iris

Songe d’Iris: The new worlds of Rochas In opening the chapter of Les Cascades de Rochas with the sparkling Eclat d’Agrumes, the house perfumer declared his passion both for citrus modernity and for the retro freshness that has marked Rochas throughout time.

Where to buy

For Songe d’Iris, the new opus of Les Cascades, the perfumer wanted to explore a more muted yet still innovative universe by blending the fabulous notes of iris with wonderfully original gourmand touches.

Songe d’Iris, or the enchanted parenthesis of a resolutely modern Rochas fragrance

Jean-Michel Duriez arrived at Rochas with two desires that both seemed entirely suited to the house: a wish to revive the great fragrant accords of the past (his cherished “olfactory memory”) and the dream of creating, from his “scent-memories”, absolute modern expressions of gourmand and fruity themes.

Thus the perfumer once again opened the great historical book of Eau de Rochas written in 1970 to add his own chapters with Eau Sensuelle and Eau de Rochas Fraîche. But he had not yet said everything. With Les Cascades, the brand new Rochas fragrance collection, the nose combines the beauty of retro freshness with a very contemporary sweetness of gourmand and fruity notes. All the more so as the perfumer likes to portray, through his fragrances, the different faces of a woman…

For Eclats d’agrumes, I wanted a fragrance that would evoke youth, carefreeness and freshness. For Songe d’Iris, where fig milk and cocoa appear, the woman is more dreamy and calm. I wanted to create a duo of fragrances reflecting the different facets of a woman, explains Jean-Michel Duriez about his two creations for Rochas.

With Songe d’Iris in 2013, Rochas and its perfumer open the way to a flower already extremely well known in perfumery (iris) in order to further enhance it with poetic originality. As a result, Songe d’Iris is the fragrance of a serene and peaceful woman while also being that of a pretty Parisian devoted to a certain elegance. To represent this multifaceted woman, Rochas chose Olivia Palermo. Casually dressed in a blue bodysuit (recalling the famous corselet of Marcel Rochas), she appears lost in thought as the precious fountain of the famous Place des Vosges refreshes her, as if to offer a highly poetic, even artistic, visual…

Water lilies and fig milk for a dreamy and refined Songe d’Iris

The magnificent elongated bottle of Songe d’Iris, the very first in the Les Cascades collection, retains the elegant simplicity of Rochas glassware as well as the beautiful cap that once dressed the now iconic Eau de Rochas. The delicate blue juice, glimpsed through the glass, is echoed among the dreamlike irises of the box.

Songe d’Iris opens on the now penetrating and invigorating Rochas signature composed around notes of bergamot, lemon and mandarin. Honeysuckle, very green, settles delicately over the luminous, aquatic heart of hedione, giving the impression of a water lily note resting in the middle of a stream. Fig sap, created from an iris worked in an unprecedented way by Rochas, brings a chocolatey scent that carries into the woody-floral sillage built with oakmoss and delicate violet. White musks lend their tenderness to bring this promenade between two waters to a close in the most enveloping way.

This fragrance of white flowers and water iris drifts gently over the skin like a fine droplet, all freshness and serenity. Rochas on Songe d’Iris.
