The French label made its mark in the same way in the world of perfumery with its fragrance pairs This is Her and This is Him, or Just Rock For Her and Just Rock for Him. In 2018, there was no pairing but rather an ode to confident femininity with Girls Can Do Anything.
Daring adventure and challenges with Girls Can Do Anything
At the origin of the Girls Can Do Anything fragrance project was a spring-summer 2018 T-shirt that became iconic for its positive message, its flair and its “girl power” spirit remixed to fit the 2018 mood. Such success could not go unnoticed, and Zadig & Voltaire had the idea of turning it into a fragrance in order to reinforce the strong identity carried by the T-shirt.
Girls Can Do Anything therefore positions itself quite differently from the brand's other fragrances, setting aside the men's/women's fragrance duo to focus solely on women, or rather on modern, ambitious and daring young women. Girls Can Do Anything carries above all the message of a new, uninhibited and self-assured femininity that does not hesitate to move forward to get what it wants.
With Girls Can Do Anything, I simply wanted to confirm what we already knew. That does not make me a feminist. It is true that we can do anything and that we must keep believing it. It is a positive message addressed to all women and young girls. Cecilia Bönström, artistic director of Zadig & Voltaire for Girls Can Do Anything.
Girls Can Do Anything, or the fougère fragrance reimagined for women
If the composition of Girls Can Do Anything is surprising, its bottle, shaped like a pink water bottle, is at least as much so. Cecilia Bönström explains that she found the inspiration for this new Girls Can Do Anything bottle while seeking to give shape to a very feminine object that was nonetheless an everyday item; during a meeting, the water bottle was a revelation for the new fragrance's bottle design.
Girls Can Do Anything is also, and above all, a revelation in terms of accords thanks to perfumer Quentin Bisch, who dared to use the traditionally masculine fougère accord and feminize it with sun-kissed florals and gourmand notes.
Girls Can Do Anything opens on surprising notes of bergamot, pear and orange blossom. But the heart is what will surprise most, with a tonka bean that plays as much on the gourmand facets of the top notes as on the woody facets of the depths. This sensual link between femininity and masculinity forms the perfect connecting thread of the powerful, typically masculine notes of musk, vanilla and ambroxan.
