Jules

Jules enters the Parfums Christian Dior catalogue in 1980, fourteen years after Edmond Roudnitska's Eau Sauvage. Jean Martel composes it.

The name comes from French slang: a woman's jules is her man. Lauryn Beer reads in it a deliberate familiarity, and the house plays on this register from launch.

An image of sport and speed

The house describes the world of the fragrance: a fan of virile, determined sport, who savors risk and adventure; motor racing, aviation, boxing and motorcycling are integral to this image.

René Gruau signs the posters, as he had signed those for Miss Dior, Diorama and Eau Sauvage. His line accompanies Jules from launch.

The bottle

The house describes a bottle of chic sobriety, where the Jules signature is calligraphed with a confident stroke, and sees in it the announcement of the eau de toilette's masculine character.

The 2016 re-orchestration

Dior brings Jules back to market in 2016. Lauryn Beer attributes this version to François Demachy and notes a stronger dose of galbanum, which sharpens its green quality.

What changes on October 1, 2026

Jules is among the thirteen fragrances that Francis Kurkdjian reinstates under the name Dioriginals, in the period he calls Dior in Paris, spanning 1979 to 2003.

Kurkdjian describes it as the fragrance of an era and of a frank virility, one that has stayed etched in the memory of an entire generation: the rich, multifaceted scent, fresh and woody, of a tough man hiding a tender one.

He says Jules had undergone minor adjustments over the course of regulatory changes, and that the new version benefits from readjustments to its spices, its mosses and its tonka bean facet, to return to the original spirit.

The work on the lavender was essential, he adds: the combination of an absolute and an essence gives it a genuinely perceptible presence. The Ovale bottle will receive all thirteen, designed in 1948 by Serge Heftler-Louiche.
