It was simply a shop for horse accessories and Thierry Hermès met with success as early as the 1867 universal exposition. A prestigious and luxurious clientele came to supply itself there. It was in the 1950s that the brand ventured into perfumery with Eau d'Hermès, although it was Calèche that opened the doors for it.
