Glossier You appeared in 2017, the brand's first perfume, signed by Frank Voelkl and Dora Baghriche at Firmenich. The house presents it as a revealer of skin scent: pink pepper at the opening, iris root, and a base of ambrette seed, ambroxan and musk that carries most of the formula.
Pink pepper
The house announces a pink pepper opening, bright and spicy, kept brief enough not to cover anything. Its role is that of a first impression, and the brand asks no more of it.
Iris root
Iris root brings an earthy, green and woody facet, tasked with balancing the warmth of the base. The house, in its French version, adds a powdery white flower, absent from its American version.
Ambrette seed, ambroxan and musk
The base carries most of the formula. The house lists three raw materials: ambrette seed, warm and comfortable, ambroxan, smooth, salty and animalic, musk, tenacious. It claims a formula built on its base notes, which changes little as it dries down.
What the label declares
The French label declares only three allergens: hydroxycitronellal, farnesol and limonene. The first carries a sweet, honeyed lily of the valley, the second a green musk close to rose, the third the citrus facet that the announced accord does not mention.
An older list still circulates among retailers and decanters, with butylphenyl methylpropional and hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. Both materials are banned in the European Union, and the bottle sold in France no longer contains them.
