The Noir 29

In 2015, Le Labo presents The Noir 29, Eau de Parfum composed by Frank Voelkl. Bay opens the composition on a spicy, fresh touch. The heart tier brings together black tea, cedar and vetiver, which lend smoke, wood and earth, softened by fig, honey-tinged tobacco and dry hay.

Composition

Top: bay

Bay opens the accord. This aromatic leaf comes from a shrub native to the Caribbean, whose essential oil is distilled. It carries a spicy facet and a sharp freshness, which give the composition its aromatic tonality from the outset.

Heart: wood and smoke

Black tea gives the heart tier a smoky, woody, almost leathery tint. Cedar adds its evocation of pencil shavings and resin. Vetiver brings an earthy, smoky depth, and musk a woody warmth with an animalic accent.

Heart: fruit, tobacco and herbs

Around these woods, fig brings sugar, greenness and a lactonic roundness. Bergamot offers a fresh, slightly sweet fruit. Tobacco evokes honey, almond and wax. Hay traces a dry grass with floral and tangy nuances, while laurel combines camphor, spice and almond.

A woody family

The woody classification rests first on cedar, drawn from the tree's wood, and on vetiver, distilled from the roots of a grass. Black tea and musk, also marked by a woody facet, extend the dry, dense character typical of compositions in this family.

What the label declares

The declared components include limonene and linalool, present in bergamot essence. Eugenol is also found, a major constituent of bay oil and present in laurel leaf, as well as isoeugenol, of the same clove tonality. Citronellol, geraniol, citral and farnesol, common in floral and citrus essences, complete the list.
